Vietnam 2017

The ASE Foundation’s 2017 global health program was supported by donor contributions to the Annual Appeal, and by a grant from the Edwards Lifesciences Foundation Every Heartbeat Matters program.

Hanoi • Thanh Hóa City
October 2017

This event was a collaboration between the ASE Foundation (ASEF), the Vietnam National Heart Association, the Vietnam National Heart Institute at Bach Mai Hospital, and the Vietnam Society of Echocardiography in October 2017. Our team of 11 ASEF volunteers were honored to be included in the Vietnam National Heart Association’s annual meeting in Thanh Hóa City where we delivered two days of lectures dedicated to imaging in heart failure as well as hands-on scanning demonstrations and training, including 3D and strain acquisition and analysis. Attendees received copies of two essential ASE guidelines translated into Vietnamese, as well as a USB drive loaded with the full set of ASE guideline documents in English. This meeting was followed by two days of patient outreach where our team assessed 383 patients at two local commune clinics. After returning to Hanoi, we spent three days at Bach Mai Hospital, working in the adult and pediatric cardiac units, and helping train five cardiac ultrasound technologists to acquire images and perform measurements following a basic protocol.
