Dr. Nausheen Akhter is a cardiologist at Northwestern Medicine and an associate professor at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. She specializes in cardio-oncology and imaging and is the Director of the Cardio-Oncology program at Northwestern Medicine.

Her research interests include studying advanced echocardiographic techniques for the early detection of cardiac toxicities from anti-cancer therapies and improving outcomes in patients with cancer and heart disease.

Dr. Akhter is passionate about service, advocacy and mentorship and has been involved in several activities internationally, nationally, and locally in health equity. She has received several awards for teaching and humanism. She is a fellow of the American Society of Echocardiography (FASE) and has served a leadership role on the inaugural board of directors for the ASE Foundation. She is also on the editorial board of the Journal of the American Society of Echocardiography (JASE).
