Patients Scanned
In late January 2012, a team of 9 US-based cardiovascular sonographer volunteers traveled to rural India to bring cardiovascular ultrasound to an underserved population.
“The first ASE Global initiative was a historic event and the first ever of its magnitude for the Society. It engaged physicians, sonographers and engineers across the globe at once for many different reasons – humanitarian, cultural and educational exchange, global health research, new technology evaluation and patient care applications.” – Dr. Partho Sengupta, ASE Foundation Team Lead
Highlights

Free Screenings and Clinician Training
ASE Foundation volunteer sonographers and their India-based physician counterparts from Medanta Medicity Hospital in Delhi used technology to provide education to local clinicians and free imaging services to 1,030 pre-identified people.

Acquired Images Sent Across The Globe
In collaboration with Core Sound Imaging, Inc., the team used their web-based Studycast® system to send acquired images from India to readers all over the world, and then back to India for follow-up care.

The Vital Role of Technology
“The technological achievement of this event cannot be overstated. In just two days, these exams were digitized, uploaded to the Internet “cloud,” and interpreted by dozens of volunteer readers all over the world, usually within eight hours of acquisition." - James Thomas, MD, FASE
Participants & Collaborators
The volunteer team consisted of 9 ASE Foundation sonographers. Our team worked side by side with the local clinicians which provided the perfect opportunity to collaborate and share knowledge.
